On the East Side: Sunny Cove

It was time to reconnect with our roots to truly explore the place we call home. So, dust off your metaphorical travel hat, and let's embark on a local adventure - a Staycation on the East Side of Santa Cruz.

Our first mission: finding the perfect place to stay. After careful consideration, we opted for Ocean Echo Inn & Beach Cottages, charming little cottages perched just above Sunny Cove Beach. This cozy inn serves as an ideal home base after a day of rediscovering the local East Side highlights.

The best part? They're pet-friendly, so there's no need to leave your furry friend behind.

For dinner, we didn't have to venture far from our inn. Lago Di Como, a well-known authentic Italian restaurant, was just down the street. It's famous for its uncomplicated yet incredibly flavorful dishes. Our order included classic Caesar salads, a shared plate of Gnocchi al Zafferano that had us savoring every bite, and their delicious dessert Affogato to round off our meal. We decided to take a post-dinner walk to Black Beach just down the street, where we enjoyed watching the evening sunset and local surfers shredding on the waves. It was the perfect way to end our day.

The next morning, we were in no rush to do anything. Still, we wanted to catch the popular Sunday morning Live Oak Farmer's Market, conveniently located just across the street, where we grabbed a morning cup of coffee, some pastries, and fresh juice, making us well-prepared for a day of beach lounging, people-watching, and diving into the pages of our favorite books. All in all, it is a perfect stay on the East Side of Santa Cruz.

Our staycation was a success as we explored a micro part of our town on foot.
