Exploring Santa Cruz

Let's explore our hometown of Santa Cruz! As locals born and raised right here in Santa Cruz, we sometimes forget what a privilege it is to live in this quaint beach town with its endless surf spots and stunning beaches. But let us tell you, we've got some insider knowledge about the classic top 'must-do' activities tucked away in our backyard. So, let's dive into three locations and activities that promise to entertain tourists and won't disappoint.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

Classic Fun

No surprises here; we have to start with the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This historic playground, suited for all ages, is the number one must-do when you're in Santa Cruz. Jump from one thrilling ride to the next while indulging in classic amusement park treats from Whiting’s Foods, like the chocolate-dipped soft-serve ice cream (our personal favorite), cotton candy, corn dogs, and endless more. All of this while enjoying the view of the long stretch of Main Beach alongside the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf. This guarantees a day filled with pure, unadulterated fun, making you feel like a kid again.

All Aboard the Chardonnay

Chardonnay Sailing

A Sunset Voyage

Our second activity is just as iconic. Step aboard the Chardonnay Sailing Charter for a brunch or sunset cruise that will take you from the West Side of Santa Cruz to the surfers’ paradise of Pleasure Point. On this roomy sailboat, you'll be hosted by the friendliest modern-day pirate crew, who'll serve you delectable bites and sips from local eateries, wineries, and breweries. With a glass of wine or beer in hand, you can kick back, let the breeze kiss your face, and watch the colors of the sky change as the sun sets. Trust us, this is a must-do experience.

Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse

Steamers Lane, West Cliff Drive

West Cliff Drive

A Walk to Remember

Our final recommendation is a leisurely stroll along West Cliff Drive. This walk will lead you to some of the best views, perfect for Instagram-worthy photos, selfies, and even catching pro surfers in action. As you make your way from Dream Inn to the Lighthouse and beyond, you'll be mesmerized by the breathtaking vistas of the Boardwalk, the Municipal Wharf, Cowell's Beach, Steamer Lane (a famous pro surfer surf spot), and the historic Lighthouse Museum across from Lighthouse Field. Your walk can be continued all the way down to Natural Bridges (a 2.5-mile trek). Natural Bridges is a special place where monarch butterflies migrate during the fall season, creating a spectacle of nature's wonders. It's an experience that comes highly recommended.

The best part?

These three activities are all within walking distance of one another, all giving you the same view but from a different viewpoint, keeping you in the micro-destination of the Westside to Midtown. Santa Cruz, with its vibrant culture and natural beauty, offers an unforgettable experience that extends far beyond its beaches and famous surf spots. Come and explore, and you'll discover the heart and soul of this coastal town.
